Shelley Hamilton knew she was a brave new face - a black woman in Country musicin Canada, & creating a new sound, so finding musicians for the journey was key. Using her instincts, inner-voice, & daily talks with "the ancestors", she set out to find creative souls who were interested in being part of something new.
Enter Eric Lundgren, "My Music Director with Zen". Shelley began working with Eric as a duo and both found synergy.
Shelley remembered meeting Randy James at a friends' soul and blues party and liked his organic sense of rythm. The fact that they lived close to each other on the East End of Toronto made it a perfect fit. Randy was looking for a project like this one, having been performing for many years with rock acts and producing music, he wanted to explore a more rootsy part of his heritage. His intuituve intertpetation of rhythm with new arrangements became a perfect fit to their sound.
The band was beginning to take shape, but there was one crucial ingredient remaining to be found, a bass player. Joe Harry Joe made a quick and lasting impression on the ensemble with his 5 string bas and dynamic style.
No country act worth its weight in peanut shells is complete without that smooth and meloncholy sound of the pedal steel. Enter Craig Skala. A prominent member of Shelley's motown act and a trusted friend. He would join the band soon after.
It was Randy who suggested the name, Blood Harmony. The concept resinated soundly with Shelley and so the seeds were sewn, & with the boys in the band stepping up vocally at pivotal times in the show, Blood Harmony makes a statement as clear as their name implies. Country Soul is born.
